Lego Downtown Fire Brigade Review

Whether it is the holiday season or not, Lego remains one of the best choices for children’s toys. Children love to assemble their own creations using Lego bricks just as much as they enjoy poring over the pages of the instruction guides to complete building the whole set. It is great that the people over at Lego do not seem to run out of ideas as they keep on launching new and improved collection sets each year.

One of Lego’s latest releases is the Lego Downtown Fire Brigade. Part of the 2019 Modular Buildings series, the set retains the systematic way of building numbers and showcases all-new features for every collector’s enjoyment. Priced at US $99.99, the Lego Downtown Fire Brigade contains over 900 pieces including unique set pieces like two new-for-January-2019 fire axes, 3-stud shooter, a working light and a sound brick - all to make sure you get your money’s worth.

What’s Inside the Box

The Fire Brigade set is full of new designs and pieces that you can add to your Lego City collection. You will find seven exclusive Lego City minifigures inside - four firefighters, two construction workers and a pilot. What is a pilot doing in a fire brigade setup, you ask? The answer to that question is what makes this set even more interesting - years after being the first to introduce the first Lego vehicle in the style of a fire truck, this fire brigade variant also includes a fire rescue helicopter. The vehicle is complete with an opening cockpit and spinning rotors, the R.O.S.-T3: a remote controlled vehicle with extendable claws, a fire motorbike, and of course on top of all that, a 15-inch long fire ladder truck as shown on the cover of the box. Those four premium Lego vehicles should be reason enough to make this purchase.

The infrastructure pieces of the set are also made with great detail, accurately depicting today’s modern buildings. The set includes a ten-inch tall, three level building complete with a roof, an attached construction area with fence, tool holders for your characters, a falling lamp post which makes for a great story while playing, and a free-standing crane with a rotating arm and a functioning winch together with the hook so you can pick up stuff and swing them to your heart’s content. Oh, and there’s even a portable toilet with removable top and front portions to give that extra realistic feel.

Lastly, the set boasts of a number of accessories that allow you to make your City livelier. You will find a couple of warning lights, two sets of smoke gear, a total of twelve water elements, remote control elements for both the crane and the R.O.S.-T3, nine toppling, and buildable fire elements to use in creating more than a dozen possible scenarios while playing. There are even mini-accessories for the minifigures in the form of two fire axes and two water bottles, among others.

Assembling the Fire Brigade Set

Lego Downtown Fire Brigade Assebly

While the 2019 version of the fire brigade contains a lesser amount of pieces (the 2009 version was a huge set with over 2200 pieces in it), the new set makes up for that with better quality designs and new technology to add lighting and sound options to your City. New additions like the extending swivel ladder and a fire hose featuring the new water jet function make the set more interesting, while bit-detailed accessories like a sandwich for your hungry firefighter or a jackhammer for your busy construction worker add more fun to the creative aspect of the set. It is relatively easy to build, but the enjoyability and playability details were surely given a premium when this set was designed.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Lego Downtown Fire Brigade set is a must-buy not only for Lego City collectors but for all Lego enthusiasts in general. The set attracts you with consistently designed features (the figures are properly scaled and the fully-built set makes for a great display), then pulls you in for hours with it’s technologically-enhanced accessorization and play value. Surely even adults can get hooked playing with this set - raising the ladders, pressing the fire truck light along with the sound brick to signal the call for your firefighters, then squeezing the bellows to launch your choice of water elements to knock your self-designed fire elements down. This product is easily one of the most fun Lego City Fire sets ever released.
